Activities Of The Envoy

Since her appointment in May 2007, Elizabeth Mataka has been diligently using her position as the UN secretary general’s special envoy for AIDS to make an impact on continued responses to the epidemic across the continent.

These are the special envoy’s advocacy concerning HIV and AIDS, from fighting homophobia to the need for more diligent attention to promoting gender equality and continued action from all sectors against HIV and AIDS.

 “We need to ask ourselves about the kind of legacy we will leave for our daughters and granddaughters. Unless we stand up to some of these harmful practices, all they will inherit is a certain death before they have actually lived” Elizabeth Mataka.
